Description

Feed your family simply, healthfully, frugally – without spending too much time or energy thinking about it.

Have you noticed that most home management systems claim that having a menu plan is essential? It’s true. Knowing what is for dinner and having the ingredients on hand promotes peace in our minds and homes.

But do you realize how many steps are actually involved in menu planning? Typical menu planning involves multiple dependent steps:

  • Find out what’s on sale or what coupons you have.
  • Find recipes you can cook and want to eat.
  • Figure out what ingredients you need to cook those recipes.
  • Try to mesh the ingredients you need with what’s on sale.
  • Make the grocery list.
  • Shop.
  • Remember what you’re going to make for dinner when, and pull it off.
  • Use the perishables before they go bad.

Dinner shouldn’t be that hard.

Simplified Dinners takes the thinking out of the whole dinner cycle of planning, shopping, and cooking, and makes it easy for you to customize the healthy, whole-food recipes according to your family’s tastes.

It is possible to cook good, healthy food without a pantry full of specialized ingredients, and it is possible to make easy dinners without shortcut, preprepared products.

Your plan includes so much of what I already have in our house, allows me creativity when I want it, but takes away the pressure of having to plan when my brain is tired.

–Jennifer Ott

Simplified Dinners enables anyone to transition toward home-prepared, real, whole foods cooking — even those less confident in the kitchen.

Dinner: streamlined, yet flexible.

Your taquitos recipe is my fav so far! Cooking is not something I really enjoy, so I am really happy to have a nice cookbook with ingredients that are normal!

–Zoae Spackman

The format and style were totally intuitive. I love that it offers flexibility with some structure, where I have some room to improvise but don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

–Willa Ryan

Plan dinner with less thinking.

This is not another cookbook. It is a whole new approach in the kitchen.

No. You are purchasing a digital ebook in pdf form. However, it is formatted to easily printed from home. Many print a copy, stick the sheets in page protectors, and put it in a binder.
No. The cost of having hard copies made is prohibitive. However, you can print the pages easily from home and either put them in a binder or have them spiral bound at an office supply store for only a couple dollars.
Sort of. It is not formatted like a typical cookbook (you can see the sample above), but it does include instructions for cooking various meals. The instructions are written more like guidelines than precise law, leaving room for variation, flexibility, and taste. Most recipes do not include exact measurements, but either proportions and ratios, or simply "pinch" "scoop" where it doesn't matter. If this is disconcerting to you, you might prefer Simplified Dinners for New Cooks which gives amounts and more directions.
It includes instructions on putting together menu plans, and menu planning templates, but not premade menu plans. In fact, if you keep the pantry ingredients on hand, you don't really need a menu plan at all. You will be able to open up to almost any meal and get it on the table in an hour, more or less. If you hate being tied to a menu plan and prefer to cook on a whim based on what sounds good, Simplified Dinners will enable you to do just that, because you'll always have what you need on hand.
Actually, Simplified Dinners makes it easy to get away with no menu planning at all.You will be able to open up to almost any meal and get it on the table in an hour, more or less. If you hate being tied to a menu plan and prefer to cook on a whim based on what sounds good, Simplified Dinners will enable you to do just that, because you'll always have what you need on hand.
You probably already have most of them on hand already. You can see the master pantry list here.
My approach to menu planning and cooking works well for people who don't like to cook because it streamlines the process and removes the strict but unnecessary rules surrounding the process. Your goal is to put dinner on the table, not make a meal fit for an issue of Martha Stewart. Simplified Dinners is about real meals for real families, stripping the process down to the basics and making it simpler and faster to put a full homemade meal on the table. If you don't have much experience cooking from scratch, Simplified Dinners for New Cooks would probably be the best fit.
It should. Because Simplified Dinners is more of a set of guidelines than strict recipes, you can easily customize your meals to fit your family's taste. Include curry. Don't include curry. It's no big deal. Use more of what your family likes and omit what they don't like. Simplified Dinners makes that easy.
I have a special version of Simplified Dinners just for you! Simplified Dinners: Gluten- and Dairy-Free Edition takes the same approach and removes the stress and awkwardness from cooking allergy-friendly foods. I've been in that boat myself, and this edition is borne from experience.Even if you only occasionally cook for friends or relatives who are gluten and dairy free, this edition will make it easy to plan meals that feel normal to everyone - no specialty ingredients are required.
Well, no, have you looked at the price of cookbooks lately? Besides, this is much more than a cookbook. This is a system and approach to getting dinner on the table that will remove stress and mental effort from the entire process. It will be faster to grocery shop, easier (or unnecessary) to menu plan, and simpler to cook a complete meal.To get that level of help, you could subscribe to a service that gives you a shopping list and menu plan (that you might not like) for the same price, but charged every month instead of one time. You don't need a subscription to someone else's plan. You just need a solution and strategy to streamline your own situation.
Then let me know and I'll refund your money! No problem.

I have had your Simplified Dinners for a few years now and cannot say how much that has revolutionized my household. I have eleven children (twelfth on the way), and your way of thinking is the MOST helpful, efficient, and sensible!

I have been using Simplified Dinners this summer and my family loves the meals I’ve made. It has also simplified my shopping and boosted our budget! The best compliment though, comes from my 8 year old daughter. I made savory chicken cutlets (I used free-range chicken thighs because they were on sale)…dredged in flour, pan cooked and then with the pan gravy, steamed green beans and rice . This is what she said:

“This is an impressive dinner, mama! I have eaten all my chicken and most of my vegetables without thinking about ketchup dip!” 8-year-old newly enlightened ketchup dip enthusiast
